Photoplethysmography vs. Electrocardiogram

Photoplethysmography vs. Electrocardiogram

14 Apr, 2021

Photoplethysmography (PPG) or Electrocardiogram(ECG)? And what’s the difference?

PPG relies on an optical measurement whereas ECG relies on electrical activity. PPG measures the blood flow based on light level reflected in the blood, turning information into heart rate and heart rhythm data.

ECG, on the other hand, monitors cardiac muscle tissue activity using electrode sensors to track electrical activity. #RPM
